Route Overview

The Beijing–Harbin HSR runs 1,198 km from Beijing Chaoyang Station through Chengde in Hebei, Shenyang in Liaoning, and Changchun in Jilin to Harbin West Station in Heilongjiang. The full corridor was completed when the Beijing–Chengde section opened in January 2021. It forms part of the Beijing–Harbin and Beijing–Hong Kong–Macau corridor in China's "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed rail network.

Operations

The Beijing–Harbin HSR was designed for speeds of 350 km/h. Actual trainsets, operating speeds, stops, and journey times depend on the individual service; Chengde South, Shenyang North, and Changchun West are not served by every train. Winter weather in northeast China can affect travel, so search the date on China Railway 12306 and check any temporary notices issued by the railway operator.

Scenery Along the Way

The corridor crosses terrain around the Yanshan Mountains and the Northeast China Plain, with pronounced seasonal changes. Chengde Mountain Resort, Shenyang Imperial Palace, the Museum of the Imperial Palace of Manchukuo in Changchun, and Harbin's Songhua River waterfront are destinations in cities served by the route. They require onward travel from the relevant station and should not be assumed to be visible from the train.

Travel Tips

For winter travel in northeast China, check the destination forecast and pack suitable cold-weather clothing; low temperatures can shorten phone battery life. Ice attractions publish different opening dates and transport arrangements each season, so use current official information. Local connections at Beijing Chaoyang, Shenyang North, and Harbin West can also change; confirm the train status, availability, and station on China Railway 12306.
