Beijing South station: editorial diagram of key planning topics; not a photograph or official layout.

Beijing South Railway Station is 北京南站, often shown as Beijingnan in station-name systems. Use it only when your selected train names Beijing South: Beijing Railway Station, Beijing West, Beijing North, Beijing Chaoyang and Beijing Fengtai are separate stations.

Beijing South or Beijingnan: which name should you use?

Match the ticket, map and station signs
Name you seeHow to use it
Beijing South / Beijingnan / 北京南站These names refer to Beijing South Railway Station. Match this station to the departure shown on your issued ticket.
Beijing Railway Station / 北京站A different railway station. Do not shorten Beijing South to Beijing Station when choosing a taxi or map destination.
Beijing West / 北京西站A different railway station. A connection requires travel across the city and another station entry process.

Keep an offline note with your departure date, train number, full station name, carriage and seat. The booking reference identifies your order; it is not the train number to look for on the departure board. For booking preparation, use the passport booking checklist.

Check the route and the full station name

Many services toward Tianjin, Shanghai and other eastern cities use Beijing South, but the city pair alone is not sufficient to choose a station. Confirm the issued itinerary, including the arrival station. For example, travel to Shanghai still requires checking whether your train arrives at Shanghai Hongqiao or another Shanghai station.

Save 北京南站 on your phone and show the exact name to your driver. A map search for only “Beijing station” can send you to the wrong terminal. See the Beijing–Shanghai guide for that route's planning choices.

Metro and road access

Beijing South is served by Beijing Subway Lines 4 and 14. The municipal station guide places metro access in the B1 arrival/transfer area. Follow current signs from the metro toward railway departures; the metro platform is not the train boarding hall, and entry procedures still take time.

If arriving by taxi or ride-hailing car, choose the railway departure drop-off and check the entrance with your driver. Road congestion and a walk inside the station can add time. On arrival by train, follow official taxi or designated ride-hailing pickup signs; the correct pickup area may differ from where cars drop departing passengers.

Departure checklist

  1. Confirm the ticket is issued and says Beijing South/北京南.
  2. For a first visit, plan to reach the railway entrance around 60 minutes before departure, longer during peaks or for counter assistance. This is a recommended buffer.
  3. Present the original booking document and pass security. Passport users should ask for a staffed lane if needed.
  4. Find the train number on the display and confirm the current gate. Do not use the final destination alone to identify the train.
  5. Be at the gate before its stated closing time, then follow the platform and carriage signs.

Detailed identity and gate advice is in the boarding guide.

Connecting to another Beijing station or airport

A change to Beijing West, Beijing Railway Station or another terminal is a city transfer, not a walk between platforms. Compare the current metro or road route, then add time to exit, travel, re-enter and reach the next gate. A journey planner's vehicle time does not include all these steps.

For a flight connection, identify whether the airport is Beijing Capital or Beijing Daxing, check the airline's check-in deadline and allow for delays. There is no single connection time that fits every airport, terminal and traffic condition. Avoid attaching an important flight to an unrealistically tight rail transfer.

Beijing South to Daxing Airport (PKX)

Use the airport code on your flight ticket: Daxing (PKX) and Capital (PEK) are different airports. One rail route from Beijing South to Daxing uses Line 4, Line 10 and the Daxing Airport Express:

  1. Follow signs to Subway Line 4. Travel south from Beijing South (北京南站), through Majiabao (马家堡), to Jiaomen Xi (角门西).
  2. At Jiaomen Xi, change to Line 10 and choose the platform with Caoqiao (草桥) as the next station. Travel one stop.
  3. At Caoqiao, follow the signs for the Daxing Airport Express (大兴机场线). Board an airport-bound train and continue past Daxing Xincheng to Daxing Airport.
  4. Follow signs from the airport rail station to your airline's departure area. Include the interchange walks, waiting and airline check-in deadline in your plan.

The Line 4 station sequence, Line 10 station sequence and municipal Daxing Airport rail guide support these connections. Line 4's linked Daxing metro line is not the Daxing Airport Express: staying on Line 4 towards Tiangongyuan does not take you to the airport.

Beijing South to Capital Airport (PEK)

A rail option uses Line 4, Line 2 and the Capital Airport Express. Confirm your flight terminal before leaving the railway station.

  1. Take Line 4 north towards Anheqiao Bei (安河桥北), passing Taoranting and Caishikou, and get off at Xuanwumen (宣武门).
  2. Change to Line 2. Choose the direction with Hepingmen (和平门) as the next station and remain on the train to Dongzhimen (东直门).
  3. At Dongzhimen, change to the Capital Airport Express (首都机场线). Use the airport-bound service and get off at the terminal shown on your flight itinerary; the airport rail stations serve T3 and T2.

Check the Line 2 station sequence and Capital Airport's rail guide for interchanges, terminal access and service hours. These are route options, not a claim that rail is always the fastest or easiest choice with luggage.

Airport bus and late-night checks

Capital Airport's official transport page lists a Beijing South service departing from the railway station's South Square (南广场) towards T2 and T3. Check the direction, next departure and boarding location with staff before walking there; road traffic and intermediate stops affect the journey.

For Daxing, do not rely on an old reference to the direct night bus: the official March 2026 notice announced that the Daxing Airport–Beijing South night service would stop from 7 April 2026. Verify any replacement service before travel.

For a late connection, check every leg, including the Daxing Airport Express operator's first/last trains or the Capital Airport rail guide above. The airport train may finish before the connecting metro; reaching the first platform in time is not enough. If the complete journey does not fit, compare a licensed taxi or a later onward departure. Show the driver the exact airport and terminal.

Airport route connections and the linked official notices were checked on 28 October 2026. The routes are planning guidance, not a live journey-planner result or a guaranteed connection.

Plan a transfer from Beijing South in five parts

  1. Confirm the next departure station or airport and terminal from the onward ticket.
  2. Allow time to leave the arriving train and reach the station exit.
  3. Check the current metro or road route for that exact destination and time of day.
  4. Add walking, station entry and security time at the next railway station, or the airline check-in and security requirements at the airport.
  5. Leave a separate allowance for delays and check the original seller’s change terms before relying on a tight connection.

A map’s travel estimate covers only part of the transfer. Do not treat a successful purchase of two tickets as confirmation that the connection is protected. If you are continuing to Shanghai, the Hongqiao station guide explains the arrival hub and airport choices.

Arriving late or needing assistance

Check current last metro services before booking a late arrival. Temporary holiday extensions should not be treated as the normal timetable. If you need step-free access or boarding assistance, contact the station or 12306 in advance and follow the assigned route. General facilities and transfer signs are explained in the station guide.
