China's high-speed rail (HSR) forms an extensive network across major economic corridors and city regions. Selected Fuxing services operate at up to 350 km/h, but the train type, operating speed, stops, and running dates depend on the route and train number. The network continues to change and expand, so a planning target or historical network total is not a substitute for current operations; search China Railway 12306 for the actual travel date.
Development History
China's HSR development can be divided into several key phases. In 2004, the State Council approved the Medium- and Long-Term Railway Network Plan, launching the HSR era. On August 1, 2008, the Beijing–Tianjin Intercity Railway — China's first 350 km/h HSR line — opened, marking the country's entry into the high-speed rail age. The Beijing–Shanghai HSR opened in 2011, connecting the two most important cities. The Beijing–Guangzhou HSR was fully completed in 2012 as the world's then-longest HSR line. The Shanghai–Kunming HSR opened fully in 2016, completing the "Four Vertical, Four Horizontal" backbone. China then entered the "Eight Vertical, Eight Horizontal" era, continuously densifying and extending the network.

Fuxing CR-series trainsets operate on many high-speed routes, with selected services running at up to 350 km/h. China's railway infrastructure includes major river bridges, long tunnels, and lines designed for environments such as severe cold, desert conditions, and high altitude. The trainset, speed tier, and onboard facilities vary by service, so check the selected train rather than applying one specification to the whole network.
Route Network
China's HSR network continues to develop around the "Eight Vertical, Eight Horizontal" corridor framework. Major directions include the Beijing–Shanghai, Beijing–Guangzhou, Shanghai–Kunming, and Beijing–Harbin corridors, connecting many provincial capitals, regional centers, and visitor destinations. A city may have several railway stations, and a corridor name is not the same as a passenger train service; use the complete departure and arrival stations shown by 12306.
Train Types
Travelers commonly see G, D, and C train-number prefixes as well as Fuxing (CR) and Hexie (CRH) trainsets. A prefix identifies a service category but does not by itself determine the exact speed, stops, or seat products. Business, First, Second, and sleeper products are available only on applicable trains, and onboard facilities vary by trainset; check the live seat classes and service details for the selected train.
